Sustainable Potato Program

Earlier today: Turn-over of potato seeds to Cordillera Autonomous Region (CAR) farmers cooperatives at Benguet Agri-Pinoy Trading Center in La Trinidad, Benguet.

An initiative of Universal Robina Corporation (URC) and Department of Agriculture High Value Crops Development Program to improve the production and enhance competitiveness of local potato farming community by (1) providing them with high quality tubers; (2) access to training, research & development and technical assistance from the Bureau of Plant Industry and Agricultural Training Institute and SUC's and (3) sure link and access to market like supermarkets, hotels, etc.

DA Secretary, Emmanuel Pinol shared that there will be more than 6,000 units of Solar Powered Irrigation System for rice and vegetable farms and he challenged the LGU's, DA Officials and the cooperatives to find water impounding stations and improve farmers' skills and embrace modern technology.

With DA Chief were Usec Ariel Cayanan, Evelyn Lavina, OIC RED Cameron Odsey, BPI OIC Director George Y. Culaste, and Baguio NCRDPSC Chief, Jesus Aspuria, LGU partners and farmers and URC officials to witness the momentous ceremony.

Grateful to be one of the beneficiaries, Basilio M. Copas, Chairman of Seeds and Fruits Multi-Purpose Cooperative, accepted the challenge and committed to actively support the project.

BPI will play a crucial role as one of the capacity building and technical assistance providers and will ensure the quality of potato seeds.
