BPI-Guimaras joins 2017 Manggahan Festival

“The journey that is Guimaras: Sadto…Subong…kag sa Masanag nga Palaabuton,” is this year’s theme of Manggahan Festival 2017 of the province of Guimaras, which was celebrated from May 11-22, 2016.

This year’s celebration was participated by different government agencies, private organizations, local government units, associations and other stakeholders. The Bureau of Plant Industry-Guimaras National Crop Research, Development and Production Support Center (BPI-Guimaras NCRDPSC) annually supports and took part on the different activities during the festivity.

One of the activities co-sponsored by the Center was the “Agri-Eco Day” on May 18, 2016.  Participated by some 300 farmers, fisherfolk and other stakeholders, the one-day event highlighted the different practices on farming, fishing and environmental management.  Talent and skills of farmers, fisherfolks, women’s and other stakeholders were also showcased through a competition.
 

During the event, the Center distributed quality planting materials (300 grafted mango and cashew seedlings), various  vegetable seeds (squash, ampalaya, pole sitao, okra,  and cow pea) and OPV glutinous corn seeds (250 kgs).

Moreover, during the National  Government Agencies (NGAs) day and night, the Center joins the parade and the one stop shop set-up for NGAs. Information Concerning the Center's services was presented and IEC materials on different matured technologies on mango were distributed. Talents competition among the agencies highlighted and concluded event.

The Center's participation to the different activities of Manggahan festival strengthened the collaboration and linkages with the provincial goverment of guimaras and other agencies in extending services and materials assistance to farmers and other stakeholders.
