BPI-Guimaras holds field day on farmer-cooperator farm

The Bureau of Plant Industry-Guimaras National Crop Research Development and Production Support Center (BPI-Guimaras NCRDPSC) in collaboration with its farmer-cooperator, Ms. Rosario M. Griesser of Guimaras Wonder’s Farm in Jordan, Guimaras conducted a field day and techno-forum on May 19, 2017.

The field day was conducted to showcase and promote the natural/organic management practices implemented in collaboration with farmer-cooperator especially in mango production.  Technology forum on organic agriculture was also conducted during the field day, where Dr. Cecilia dR. Medina of UPLB lectured on pest management on organic crops and Mr. Yondre J. Yonder of BPI-Guimaras NCRDPSC talked the integrated crop management on organic/natural production.  Moreover, Mrs. Griesser shared her experiences on organic/natural farming, where she finds it very challenging and laborious but inspiring.  Meanwhile, Ms. Jenny Lyn dG. Añana, focal person of BPI-Organic program discussed the requirements on 3rd Party Organic Agriculture Certification. Participants were also toured around the farm to observe and experience the different practices and crops grown as part of organic/natural farming management.

One hundred (100) organic and natural farming practitioners and enthusiasts from the different municipalities of the province of Guimaras attended the said activity.  The participants did not only gained knowledge and information on organic and natural farming system management but also availed the naturally/organically produced planting materials (vegetable seeds and potted herbs seedlings) distributed during the event.
