BPI-Guimaras holds seminar on RA 9262

The Bureau of Plant Industry – Guimaras National Crop Research, Development and Production Support Center (BPI-GNCRDPSC) conducted a seminar on Anti-violence Against Women and Children Act of 2004 (RA 9262) on October 11, 2016.

The seminar which was attended by staff and personnel of the Center aims to spread awareness on the importance of valuing dignity of women and children and respect of human rights especially in the workplace.

Retired Police Superintendent Ma. Cecilia R. Detablan, who is also the President and Executive Director of Anti-Trafficking in Persons Advocates Network, Inc. discussed to the group the content and details of RA 9262.  She emphasized the different forms of violence against women and children, which include physical, sexual and psychological violence and economic abuse.  Further, she added that while RA 9262 protects women, however it does not also condone abuses against men or male employees.

The one-day seminar was conducted as part of the gender and development (GAD) program of the Center and it hopes that it would empower the staff and employees.
