 The BPI-Guimaras National Crop Research, Development and Production Support Center (GNCRDPSC) conducted a one-day seminar on Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees (RA 6713) and Herbal Medicine Utilization on November 19, 2015.  The seminar aimed to educate the newly appointed employees of the Center on their roles and responsibilities as public servants.  It also wanted to encourage and promote the utilization herbs and other plants with medicinal use.

               Mr. Mark Alfred N. Soriano of Civil Service Commission, Regional Office 6 conducted the lecture on RA 6713.  He emphasized the eight norms of conduct for public employees to be good professionals and to uphold the time-honored principle of public office being a public trust.  These norms include commitment to public interest, professionalism, justness and sincerity, political neutrality, responsiveness to the public, nationalism and patriotism, commitment to democracy and simple living.  An open forum was also conducted to address the queries of employees and clarify some matters relating to their privileges, rights and additional designation.

               Moreover, lecture on herbal plants and its utilization was conducted by Engr. Lemie S. Leonida, President of Lambunao, Iloilo Organic Vegetable Growers Association (LOVEGA). She presented and discussed the different herbs and their usefulness.  She also demonstrated how to prepare herbal medicines like ointment and liniment.  Being an organic advocate and herbalist, she encourages the staff to make use of the available herbs for food, medicine and cosmetic usage for its not only healthy but is also cheap and safe.

                 The activity was facilitated by the Center’s GAD Focal Person as part of the Gender and Development Program of the Center.
